Why Shelbyville Trusts On-Time Plumbing as Their Water Leak Detection Company

Undetected leaks often cause more damage than the repair itself, and locating the source accurately is what determines whether the fix actually holds long term.

Water Leak Detection & Repair Services

Water leaks rarely announce themselves immediately.

By the time stains, warped flooring, or mold appear, moisture has often been spreading behind surfaces long enough to damage surrounding materials.

Our water leak detection service uses professional equipment to locate the source accurately before unnecessary cutting, excavation, or repairs begin.

Leak Detection Tools We Use

Detecting a hidden water leak accurately requires different tools depending on whether the leak is inside a wall, beneath flooring, underground, or inside a pipe.

Here’s what we use:

Acoustic listening devices:

Amplify the sound of escaping water through walls, flooring, and underground pipe runs

Thermal imaging cameras:

Identify temperature differences caused by hidden moisture behind surfaces

Moisture meters:

Measure moisture levels inside drywall, ceilings, flooring, and structural materials

Hydrostatic pressure testing:

Isolates sections of piping to confirm pressure loss and leak locations

Sewer and drain cameras:

Provide live visual inspection inside drain and sewer piping systems

Pipe Leak Detection

Supply lines behind walls and beneath flooring develop small pressure leaks that spread into surrounding structural materials long before any surface damage appears.

Our team uses pipe leak detection to monitor system pressure, apply acoustic listening equipment along the pipe run, and track moisture movement with thermal imaging until the affected section is confirmed.

Pipe Leak Repair

Pipe material, damage location, and surrounding system condition all determine how the repair is approached.

Our team isolates the affected section, replaces damaged piping or failed connections, and pressure tests the repaired line before service is restored.

Properties with widespread corrosion or multiple failures across the system are assessed for full repiping as the more reliable long-term solution.

Fixture Leak Detection & Repair

Fixture Leak Detection

Every plumbing unit in your home leaks differently, depending on how the supply, drain, and sealing components are built.

Our fixture leak detection process adjusts to each one, so the exact failure point is confirmed accurately.

  •  Sinks: We inspect supply lines, shutoff valves, basket strainers, and drain assemblies, then use moisture meters inside the cabinet to confirm whether water has spread beyond the immediate leak point
  • Faucets: We test cartridges, valve seats, and supply fittings under pressure to identify active drips and internal seal failures that don’t show from the outside
  • Toilets: We inspect wax rings, tank bolts, fill valves, and the supply line, then check the flooring around the flange for moisture that has spread beneath the surface
  • Showers: We scan shower valves, drain assemblies, and
  • surrounding wall areas with moisture detection equipment to locate leaks traveling behind tile and into wall cavities
  • Bathtubs: We check overflow assemblies, tub drains, and supply connections, then inspect surrounding flooring for moisture movement caused by hidden seal or plumbing failures

Fixture Leak Repair

Every fixture leaks differently — the repair is matched to what the detection confirmed and tested before the job is closed.

  • Sinks & Faucets: Supply lines, cartridges, drain assemblies, shutoff valves, basket strainers, and faucet connections repaired and tested under normal pressure
  • Toilets: Failed wax rings, tank seals, supply lines, fill valves, and mounting components replaced with surrounding flooring checked for moisture spread around the flange
  • Showers: Shower valves, drain connections, supply fittings, and fixture seals repaired, with nearby wall cavities inspected for moisture intrusion behind tile
  • Bathtubs: Overflow assemblies, tub drains, supply connections, and surrounding plumbing components repaired and tested under normal drainage and fill conditions

Wall Leak Detection

Supply line failures and drain connection leaks inside wall cavities are difficult to pinpoint because water exits the pipe at one point and surfaces at another.

Wall leak detection maps the saturation pattern with moisture meters, applies thermal imaging to find where temperature drops inside the cavity, and uses acoustic equipment to isolate the pressurized leak sound along the pipe run.

Wall Leak Repair

Wall repairs are kept to the confirmed failure point.

Our team accesses the damaged pipe or connection, completes the repair, inspects surrounding framing and insulation for moisture exposure, and pressure tests the section before the wall is closed.

Ceiling Leak Detection & Repair

Ceiling Leak Detection

Ceiling leaks almost always originate from a bathroom, kitchen, or laundry area on the floor above.

Our ceiling leak detection process inspects drain connections, supply lines, and fixture seals in the room directly above the stain, uses thermal imaging to follow the moisture path back to the entry point, and measures saturation in the surrounding framing.

Ceiling Leak Repair

Ceiling leak repair starts above the stain.

Our team repairs the failed pipe, drain connection, or plumbing component above the ceiling, inspects surrounding framing for moisture spread, and confirms the area is dry before any surface restoration is recommended.

Floor Leak Detection

Floor leaks behave differently depending on what is running beneath the surface. In kitchens and laundry areas, appliance supply hoses and drain connections are the first inspection point.

Our floor leak detection service uses thermal imaging to identify cold spots from pooling water under tile and hardwood, and acoustic equipment to confirm supply line or drain failures below the subfloor. We use acoustic equipment to locate structural leaks and clear severe blockages with professional drain cleaning before restoring service.

Floor Leak Repair

Our team accesses the confirmed leak location beneath the flooring using the least invasive method the repair allows, replaces the damaged pipe or connection, inspects the subfloor for moisture exposure, and pressure tests the line before flooring is restored.

Supply line failures running beneath the slab are evaluated for water line repair when the damage extends beyond a single section.

Basement Leak Detection

Basement Leak Detection

Basement moisture comes from more directions than any other location in the property.

Basement leak detection distinguishes between condensation and active intrusion using:

  • Concrete moisture probes
  • Checks sump discharge systems for back-pressure and connection failures, and
  • Applies acoustic equipment along the slab perimeter to trace underground pipe breaks.

Basement Leak Repair

Basement leak repair targets the confirmed plumbing source — supply lines, drain piping, or sump system connections — before moisture continues spreading into surrounding structural materials.

Our team replaces failed fittings, valves, or deteriorated pipe sections, inspects concrete and framing for retained moisture, and pressure tests repaired lines before the job is closed. If your leak involves a failed tank or supply connection on your hot water unit, our team provides complete water heater repair and installation services.

Drain piping failures connecting to the main system are assessed for sewer line repair.

I was selling my house in Tennessee and the buyers agent hired Scott's Septic Tank Service to inspect the mainline and septic tank. Scott's told the agent that there was tree root intrusion in the mainline as it discharged into the septic tank and they took a cell phone photo of the "root intrusion." I personally opened the septic tank and found it to be hair that was sticking to the edge of the mainline. My agent then contacted Scott's to ask for video proof if the mainline had a camera run down it. They adamantly said it was tree roots and no video was taken. They estimated the cost, to rip us off, to seal the mainline from future "root intrusion" at $1400 on an eight year old house with no trees nearby. I called LEY Plumbing scheduled the next day for them to run a camera. They showed up earlier than scheduled and confirmed NO ROOT INTRUSION. The crew was very professional and courteous. We highly recommend them for service because they are honest. The photo was taken by Scott's Septic Tank Service.
